Oggy and the Cockroaches Wiki

Animville is a city in which is the main setting of the series. Its geographic location changes constantly within the series.

Geography[]

On occasions, it appears the city is established in-land, because when Oggy and Jack needed to travel to the beach, they required to take road trips on highways to get there, as seen in Blue Sunday, Hit the Road Oggy! and their remakes. However, this is contradicted in Mayday! Mayday!, Sea Risks, and their remakes, where the city was a coastal city.

Sometimes there may be spontaneous swamps (Scaredy-Cat, Picnic Panic), mountains (It's a Long Way Down/Library Hysteria), a waterfall (Olivia), and even the Amazon rainforest (Trans-Amazonian), yet far shots of the city's skyline shows there aren't any of these notable landmarks. This establishes that the city can have anything in it whenever the episode calls for it.

Whereas for location, it's hard to say where Animville is exactly located, which is why a separate article documenting each occasion is necessary. Though within seasons, there are common themes.

Seasons 1–2[]

In Season 1, 2, and 3, Animville was very consistently in the eastern hemisphere—Mainly shifting between Africa, Asia, and Europe.

The clearest traceable place was seen in both episodes Oggy's Clone and Milk Diet, in which the camera followed from space exactly towards a set of coordinates, happening to be in the eastern tip of Botswana, near where the real village of Robelela is, and having the border of Zimbabwe as the city's northern limit. The same shot established a birds-eye satellite view of the city too, in which it is shaped like the state of New York in the United States.

An honourable mention of commonly noted location in Season 1 and 2 is Central Asia, which was shown in episode-ending shots in Bugball and Copy Cat, where the camera zoomed out of there towards the moon.

Season 3[]

In the Season 3 episode Inside Out (original, not remastered), they returned the southern Africa setting one last time for the shots of the cockroaches in space, who then return back to Africa. Though the exact destination wasn't clear unlike before, this hints that the Botswana setting from the aforementioned two episodes may still be where Animville is as of Season 3.

However, seen in the Season 3 episode Termite-ator, the exact address to Oggy's Home was specified, which used a French naming convention, the French postal code system, and mentioned the city name Chaville, which is a real place in France.

Season 4[]

In Season 4, however, the city was consistently established as being in France.

In From Mumbai with Love, when the shot with the map, plane and path to Mumbai is shown, the start of the path is actually a dot that is located in the department of Loiret, south of Paris, France. This was consistent with a previous episode, Bicycle Crazy!, while Jack is holding a map of France, the camera zooms into the southern corridor in Loiret leading into Paris, showing another proof of Animville being located in France.

There were also numerous items and clues of the France setting, such as the weather news channel in The Abominable Snow Roach showing France as the map of where the snowstorm is, which affected our local characters, as well as Oggy in Roommate Wanted! using a mailing stamp from France, hinting that's where he lives.

Season 6 and 7[]

In Season 6 and 7, they decided to no longer set the city in France (except in Freefall Jump). Now, the city is very consistently located within the western hemisphere, shifting within both North and South America and even the Caribbean.

In the remakes of the Season 1 & 2 episodes mentioned above (Oggy's Costume and And The Winner Is... Dee Dee!), Animville is clearly shown to be located somewhere in Texas, United States, replacing the Botswana setting from the originals. This was even done in new Season 7 episodes such as Roach Vision and Lend me a Hand Oggy!

Whereas in Bouncing Ball and Oggy Robot, the Central Asia setting was replaced with central Mexico.

Amenities[]

Animville has a number of notable locations and companies, such as:

Economy and Lifestyle[]

The city appears to be a healthy large city where commerce happens, employment is easy, and transportation is easily accessible. It provides buses that take citizens from the suburbs into the city centre on a timely basis, with a stop even right in front of Oggy's Home. There appears to be no standardization on which side of the road vehicles drive on, because at least one-third of the time, vehicles drive on the left side.

The city's standard currency in Season 1 and Season 2 was either a Dollar or a Pezo, with the symbol $. Starting from Boxing Fever, Euros (€) became the standard currency for the city, with Dollars/Pezos still being used on occasion.

The city's demography is slightly diverse, where occasionally you may spot residents of African and Asian descents, though the majority demographic appears to be individuals of European descent. The vast majority of citizens are humans, with the series' focus characters being within the minority group of animals in their world where almost everyone else are humans.

Like any city, crime and poverty exists here, as seen in episodes like Sitcom/The Laugh Box and Moving Out, which display what the poor part of the city looks like—notoriously, Elk St—and what kind of people live there, such as the homeless and gangs. Elk St.'s buildings are dilapidated and garbage clutters the dirty streets.

Chaville[]

Chaville is a commune nearby or suburban neighbourhood within where the main characters live. The name is specified in the address card seen near the beginning in Termite-ator.

It consists of row after of row of mostly identical houses, in which Oggy's Home and Olivia's Home are the only two that look different. Very often throughout the series and even between shots, the directions and even colours of each house change (like in A Charming Guy where the roofs of the common houses were dark blue instead of light scarlet), and there may sometimes be a road separating each house by column, though sometimes not.

As seen in the satellite views of the city from the four aforementioned episodes, Oggy's Home is located in the centre of its street, and on the east block (except in Bicycle Crazy! where it is on the west). Bob's Home and Olivia's Home often switch places, though more often since Season 4 (except The Ice Rink), Olivia's home is one house to the right of Oggy's, and Bob's home is facing the opposite side towards Oggy's home.
